Free Furniture Plans

Creating a collection of free furniture plans is somewhat new to me. Usually I draw cabinet, not furniture plans. But there's just something about homemade furniture that is so much more enjoyable than store bought. I had to give it a try.

There's a great feeling that comes with knowing that the attractive and functional piece of furniture you use every day was built with your own hands. You also have the opportunity to add little personal touches that simply cannot be found in mass produced furniture.

And what about that odd-shaped wall that needs a perfectly sized dresser? When you build it yourself, it can be customized to fit your space precisely.

Dresser Plans

Dresser Plans

Whether you're looking to actually build a dresser or simply want to learn how to add drawers to a cabinet, these dresser plans are an excellent place to start. You can follow the plans as-is for a great five drawer dresser. Or check it out for the drawer construction ideas and some new, simpler methods for building an open cabinet box.

Bookcase Plans

Need a bookshelf with just a bit more character than a rectangular box? This bookcase is easy to build and can be built as large or as small as you want. Depending on the material you use, it should be at home in any room in your house. By following the link or clicking on the picture, you'll find more details and drawing files in PDF format that you can view or download.

DVD Cabinet

Plans for a basic DVD storage cabinet. The cabinet is pretty simple, but includes a helpful discussion on material selection. Also, incorporated into the cabinet design is a great old method for hanging it on the wall without any exposed fasteners. Since it has adjustable, rather than fixed shelves, it's also great for knick-knacks or any other sort of storage you can imagine.

DVD/CD/VHS Cabinet

The DVD cabinet plans above actually started out as a combination DVD-CD storage cabinet. The dimensions are slightly different and the adjustable shelves fit on holes located specifically for CD's, DVD's, and VHS cassettes. Check it out as a great alternative to the regular old DVD shelf. In addition to the free furniture plans, there's also some useful info on hot-air edge banding.
